Hard waste collection

Hard waste presented for collection on the nature strip

Council is currently working towards a new model for hard waste collection.

Our goal is to provide residents with greater flexibility and reliability regarding collection days and times, as part of an improved collection service.

Exploring these options has taken some time, consequently, hard waste collection will not occur in 2024.
The new 'at-call' service will be a Booked Hard Waste Collection model and is earmarked to roll-out in the Borough commencing May 2025.

The following projected timeline steps out the stages of the project;

  •   Completion of final procurement documents - September 2024
  •   Briefing of Council - November 2024
  •   Procure service provider - November / December 2024
  •   Council briefing - February 2025
  •   Tender Award - February 2025 Ordinary Meeting of Council
  •   Target commencement of service - May 2025

Hard Waste Q & A’s

What is hard waste?

Hard waste is material that can't be contained in your 120-litre kerbside waste bin. Items must not weigh more than 32 kilograms, be no longer than 1.2 metres or wider/deeper than 0.6 metres.

What changes is Council making to the hard waste service?

Council is shifting to a Booked Hard Waste Collection service. This means that residents that pay the waste charge will be able to contact Council (or the Contractor) and book a collection of hard waste at a date that is convenient for them each year. In the days leading up to your pick-up, hard waste will need to be neatly piled within the property boundary. You will not need to be home for the collection.

When will the new service commence?

The target commencement date of the new Booked Hard Waste Collection Service is May 2025.

In the meantime, where can I take my hard waste?

Residents can dispose of hard waste items year-round via the Drysdale Resource Recovery Centre. A selection of items are free to dispose of in domestic quantities.

What are the benefits of a Booked Hard Waste Collection Service?

  • Less dumped rubbish and cleaner streets - A booked hard waste collection service means there is less rubbish on the street awaiting collection and less dumped rubbish, so the streets are cleaner and safer for everybody.
  • More convenience - A booked hard waste service means that residents can arrange for their hard waste to be picked up at a time that suits them, like when they are moving house or renovating.
  • More recycling - Booked collections enable greater separation of materials, meaning more hard waste can be recycled and kept out of landfill.
