Monthly Museum Talk: “MY GRANDFATHER’S CLOCK” “LISTEN ..OUR ANCESTORS”

Queenscliffe Historical Museum Talk 23 August 2024 My Grandfather's Clock

Family history is the oldest, and most popular.

With the advent of DNA analysis and the digital revolution, thousands of ordinary people can now pursue the fascinating sport of ancestry. Though historian Graeme Davison had long been interested in the family history boom, in retirement he could finally research his own family. His books Lost Relations (2025) and My Grandfather’s Clock (2023) tackle the significance of heirlooms, the value of DNA, and the digital archive. While travelling the land and visiting the ‘deep past’, Graeme found how genealogy can enrich national history and vice versa. His book explores the perils, pleasures, and adventures along the family history trail, which he recounts in his fascinating, personal, historical presentation.
