The Borough of Queenscliffe will be installing a temporary roundabout on Kirk Road in Point Lonsdale in response to resident concerns about speeding traffic.
In recent years, residents on Kirk Road have contacted Council to let us know that traffic often travels along the street at dangerous speeds. We’ve heard that this makes the neighbourhood unsafe and causes challenges entering and exiting driveways.
We want all our residents to feel safe using their streets, so Council commissioned a traffic engineer to examine the problem and how it might be resolved. A traffic count found 23% of vehicles using Kirk Road were exceeding the speed limit during the survey period, and a specialist engineer recommended installing a roundabout on the intersection of Kirk Road and Winterley Road to slow traffic. A roundabout in this location would also prevent cars travelling quickly around the bend in Kirk Road in this area.
In light of this recommendation, Council will be installing a temporary roundabout at this intersection in late October 2021. This temporary roundabout will remain in place for a trial period of one year – enough time for us to determine if the roundabout has effectively slowed traffic, or if we need to alter the design before implementing a permanent solution.
Feedback from residents helps us identify ways to improve our community, like these safety improvements. Residents care encouraged to share feedback and ideas with Council at any time by completing the form on the Contact Us page on our website.
