The 2024 local government election will take place on Saturday 26 October 2024. During the lead up to council elections, councils must comply with specific regulations in order to keep the election impartial and fair. This is in accordance with the Local Government Act.
The Act states that the election period starts on the last day on which nominations for the election can be received and finishes at 6pm on the election day. For the upcoming election, this means the caretaker period will be from 12 Noon Tuesday September 17 until 6pm Saturday 26 October 2024.
During caretaker period, all community engagement programs are paused, and no community consultation is held. There is no major decision making allowed during this period. The day to day functions of Council (such as bin collection etc) will continue.
