The Borough of Queenscliffe’s DRAFT Active Transport Strategy (ATS) has recently attracted significant attention, of note the concept of the proposed 30km/h speed limit trial.

Council welcomes robust conversation and feedback – central to our commitment to community engagement is the importance of hearing from diverse voices, learning from both opposing and supporting perspectives, and using this insight to inform decision making, and at times, the need for further consultation.

Council has received submissions in response to the DRAFT Active Transport Strategy across varying platforms and is aware of the change.org petition.

The DRAFT Active Transport Strategy was developed amid a thorough community engagement process. Almost five hundred residents and visitors contributed to the online platform, and Council conducted stakeholder workshops with numerous attendees including school crossing supervisors, neighbouring councils, and Vic Police to name a few.

We understand residents feel strongly about potential changes to speed limits and Council encourages residents/interested parties to participate in our community engagement process by submitting a response to our DRAFT Active Transport Strategy. Council will review all feedback received and use this feedback to inform the next steps.

No decisions have been made at this point. We welcome feedback, and all strategies in the document are ideas for community consideration.

Borough of Queenscliffe Mayor, Cr Isabelle Tolhurst expressed, ‘We are asking you what you think, and we embrace the diversity of opinions we receive. Feedback ensures a strategy reflects the wants and needs of our community. We encourage you to read the DRAFT Active Transport Strategy and make a submission, on all or any components of it. This is precisely what community consultation is about.’
