We’re in the process of installing new emergency markers along our coastline. These new markers have white writing on a green background and contain a unique code that is linked to the Emergency Services Telecommunications authority (ESTA) system.

This code is specific to the location, GPS Coordinates and navigational data which assists in the dispatch of emergency services.

These markers have been installed along similar coasts throughout Victoria with great success.

Emergency Markers enable the Triple Zero call taker to immediately and accurately verify the location of an emergency in a public open space.

If you ever find yourself in need of triple zero along the beach, you’ll be able to give the caller the code instead of wasting time trying to describe where you are.

How will Emergency Markers help you?
Step 1: When an emergency occurs, always call Triple Zero (000). Your call will then be connected to an ESTA communication centre. You will be asked which Emergency Service you require.

Step 2: You will be asked: “Where is your emergency?” Give the emergency marker alphanumeric code – three letters, three numbers to identify the nearest location for emergency response attendance. You will then be asked: “What is your emergency?” The call taker will ask more questions to gather as much information as possible.

Step 3: Once the call taker knows where and what the emergency is, the emergency service required will be dispatched to help you.
